NKFI Gears Up for 2008 Gift of Life Walk

Time to break out the walkin‘ shoes again as this Sunday marks the 2008 National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Gift of Life Walk! Each year, this free event welcomes kidney patients, their families and friends, healthcare providers, transplant recipients, organ donor families and members of the Chicago area community to come out and support NKFI’s mission in educating the public about kidney disease.

Last year, over 1,200 walkers participated in the three mile walk along Lake Michigan that is followed by a health fair and entertainment!

Check out NKFI’s events page for more info.

The weather was excellent for the walk, and the energy was great!I met up with BreathinSteven there who was volunteering with GOH…and he gave me a chocolate cupcake =)
Do you know the myth that it is okay to just sign the back of your DL or tell your family your wishes- was dispelled there. I couldn’t help it, the radio announcer that was presenting w/ Steve Baskerville addressed the crowd and gave the wrong info! I couldn’t let it go…I told her to readdress the crowd to tell them to go online at http://www.DonateLifeIllinois.org to re-register to be a donor if they had not done so since January, ’06. Anyway, the walk was a wonderful way to connect with people to celebrate Life! and we did!
