I suppose there is a touch of luck in every part of life but organ donation is a different story. A number of factors play into determining who receives a transplant but there is one critical factor that serves as the foundation for the process as a whole – donor registrations.
It’s not sheer luck that more than 5.1 million Illinois residents have registered as organ/tissue donors. Donation is a conscious choice and one that can directly save the lives of others. Though the transplantation process is undoubtedly a medical miracle, it’s one that occurs everyday because someone has made an active decision to help.
This being the day to celebrate green, let’s hold those donation wristbands high and work to remind others that donation is not a matter of luck but rather a simple lifesaving decision.
