30 Rock Star Receives Transplant

August 12, 2010

The hit NBC show 30 Rock continues to bring positive attention to organ donation. First there is the hilarious yet inspiring Kidney Now! episode that featured a stellar line-up of stars performing “He Needs a Kidney.” The show partnered up with the National Kidney Foundation and all iTunes downloads of the song and episode benefit the organization.

Now there’s more great news as one of the show’s actors, Grizzwald “Grizz” Chapman, recently received a much needed kidney transplant. Grizz spoke in New York as part of a National Minority Donor Awareness event and will continue to highlight the need for kidney donors. Glad his recovery is going well!

Conan is an Organ Donor!

June 4, 2009

Regardless of whether you like the man, you’ve got to give it up for Conan O’ Brien for being a registered organ donor!

The new “Tonight Show” host noted on Tuesday night that upon moving to Los Angeles, he raced off to the DMV to receive his license. In proudly displaying his new photo, one couldn’t help but notice his donor designation. The next night, guest Tom Hanks also commended the host for registering.

Charles Tillman’s Toughest Challenge

March 4, 2009

Any Chicago Bears fan is familiar with Bears player Charles Tillman. Last year, Tillman put football aside for awhile after finding out that his daughter was in dire need of a heart transplant.

Last night, NBC Chicago did a feature story about how an organ donor helped save Tillman’s daughter’s life. A great reminder of the impact one donor can have in changing the lives of others.

Check out the story here.

NBC Dance Friday

August 15, 2008

As I was heading out of my apartment this morning, I happened to catch the tail end of NBC’s local morning newscast. I was intrigued to see that they have made “Dance Friday” a regular segment on the show. I was looking back at some old Dance Friday segments and was excited to see a variety of different mascots making their way to the NBC plaza downtown to break out some dance moves with the show’s anchors and crew.

You may recall from back in April that we were down on the NBC plaza with Morgan D’ Organ to help promote National Donate Life Month and unbeknownst to us, help kick off the very first Dance Friday session. Here’s a refresher of the good times (who knew Morgan would be such a trendsetter?!):

I also discovered this week that PA has followed suit with their own organ donation mascot called Heart Man. Hop over and drop him a hello. Who knows, maybe next year we’ll have a whole organ donor mascot family shreddin’ the floor.

Cheers,
Scott

*Going offline next week, back the week of Aug. 25!
